PITAKA’s Packaging Supplier HTAECO: Molded Pulp for Phone Cases

Premium phone accessories need packaging that feels considered before the customer even touches the product. It must hold a slim case securely, present it clearly and avoid adding layers that do not serve a practical purpose. As PITAKA’s packaging supplier, HTAECO developed molded-pulp packaging around those priorities, bringing product fit, presentation and material selection into one design process.

PITAKA has publicly described its move toward fiber-based packaging. The brand says it replaced EVA foam with paper in packaging beginning in 2019 and used biodegradable materials, mostly bagasse, for its iPhone 14 case packages in 2022. Its sustainability pages also describe its bagasse packaging direction. Those material goals align closely with HTAECO’s work supplying molded-pulp packaging for PITAKA.

Designing around a slim phone case

A phone case is lightweight, but its geometry creates several packaging requirements. The insert should keep the case from shifting, protect camera and edge details from contact damage, and leave enough room for any included accessories. At the same time, an oversized cavity can make a small product feel lost and waste material.

The practical starting point is the product itself: accurate dimensions, surface finish, camera profile, included items and the distribution route. Those inputs guide the cavity, support points and clearances. A molded-pulp insert can then be developed to hold the case in a repeatable position while keeping the presentation uncluttered.

Material choice and surface appearance also need to match the product. Bagasse and other plant-fiber pulps can create a natural, paper-like finish. The final color, texture, strength and fit depend on the selected fiber mix, tooling and production process, so samples should be reviewed against the actual product before the design is finalized.

From prototype to production

Packaging is only ready when it performs consistently beyond a design rendering. During development, teams can review fit, removal, edge protection and how the package behaves in its intended shipping configuration. A prototype cycle helps reveal tight areas, loose retention or unnecessary material before production tooling is approved.

HTAECO provides custom molded-pulp packaging development and makes packaging for mobile accessories. For more detail on the design considerations behind a phone-case insert, see our molded-pulp phone case packaging guide.

The aim is straightforward: protect the case, make the product easy to understand at first glance, and align the package with the brand’s material direction. To discuss a similar project, contact HTAECO with product dimensions, target quantity and shipping requirements.
